How to remove the STICKY from labels on plastic
Haven't quite decided how I'm going to upcycle these plastic bottles, but they are pretty, and the sticky must go! (Shout out to P&G for putting on easy to remove labels btw.)
Here is my caution first: DO NOT BURN YOURSELF! BE CAREFUL! HOT WATER
Ok, still with me?
After you've taken off as much of the label as you can (if you can't get any this should still work, it just may take longer). Heat a big coffee mug's worth of water in the microwave/auto coffee maker. - I had 12oz in a 15 oz mug. - Carefully pour that hot water into the container. Do not fill the container. It only needs to be 1/3 - 1/2 the way full. Put some tap hot water into the sink (need your drain stopper.) Enough that the plastic container can lay/float on its side in the sink. Let it sit a few minutes (up to 10.) Then being careful not to harm yourself (the mom in me persists) pour some cooking oil on the sticky parts. Use your hands or a sponge to work the glue off. In most cases that is all that is needed but sometimes I put a bit of baking soda on it too. Then all that is left is to wash off the oil with regular dish washing liquid.
