Premature Baby: Catch-up-growth

Premature birth—before 37 weeks—is often beyond a parent’s control. It’s usually driven by complex biology like inflammation, infection, or conditions such as preeclampsia that shift the body into “survival mode” too early.

And yet, these babies are incredibly resilient.

Once stable, many enter “catch-up growth,” where the body accelerates development to return to its natural path. Modern neonatal care has dramatically improved survival, especially for the smallest babies.

Some of the most powerful tools are also simple:
Skin-to-skin contact can stabilize heart rate, breathing, and temperature—even rivaling machines.

Most remarkable of all, a premature baby’s brain and lungs continue developing while already in use—adapting in real time.

This is biology, resilience, and innovation working together.
