Nikon Z6 / Nikon Z6ii Focus Shift Shooting Tutorial (indoor)

A brilliant feature for both macro and landscape photography is the Focus Shift Shooting. In essence, the Nikon Z6 can be programmed to automatically move through the focus range to provide the ultimate depth of field where all of your image is in focus from front to back.

Part 2 has been uploaded today (14/11/19) which shows a real world application of this technique.

This tutorial uses a simple object to demonstrate the technique on a computer keyboard with a sequence of 13 shots, which are then selected in lightroom and blended in photoshop using the auto blend feature. For best results, use a macro lens. This 50mm was chosen to exaggerate the depth of field which shows the technique better.

Video was shot on a D810 with a 35mm G lens, and the focus stack was on the Nikon Z6 with the 50mm 1.8S. Whilst not a macro lens, the 50mm at f1.8 provides a good visual demonstration of the technique.

Part 2 of this tutorial will be done out in the field (once I have shaken off this cold), using the same techniques demonstrated here.
