Russia: Putin inspects new Russian fifth-generation "Checkmate" fighter

Russian President Vladimir Putin inspected a model of a new fifth-generation single-engine aircraft created by Sukhoi at an air show in Moscow Oblast on Tuesday.

The presentation of the 'Checkmate' fighter took place during a visit to the MAKS-2021 air show on Tuesday.

The 'Checkmate' will be equipped with an active phased array antenna, circular optical and radio intelligence, and wide-band communication.

The maximum combat load of the fighter will be 7,400 kilograms (16,314 pounds), and capable of reaching speeds of up to Mach 2.

In the future, three variants of the fighter are expected - single, double, and unmanned. The two-seat version is possible due to small modifactions in the bow.

Earlier, the Rostec state Corporation reported that the presentation of the new fifth-generation light fighter 'Checkmate' will be the main reveal of MAKS-2021.
