Por Todo... ¡Vencerás! - For Everything... You Will Triumph! (Guatemalan Communist Song)
A song from the Guatemalan National Revolutionary Unity (URNG) guerrilla group, which united all guerrilla groups in the country which were struggling against the military dictatorship in the 1980s into a single cohesive group. The URNG continued its armed insurgency until 1998, later than most other groups in the area, as the government was initially resistant to the idea of a peace agreement. An alternate set of lyrics to this song exists which includes the line "¡Aquí, allá, el yanqui morirá!" (Here, there, the Yankee will perish!), however only a partial recording of that version exists.
Translation notes:
• Xela — Local nickname for the city of Quetzaltenango, based on its Maya name, "Xelajú".
• "Silver moon, Gardenia, which in my serenade becomes a song" — The opening lines of "Moon of Xelajú" (Luna de Xelajú), a popular Guatemalan song which is sometimes referred to as "Guatemala's second national anthem".
• National Revolutionary Unity — Shortening of the URNG's name.
