Jingle Bells (Cultural Revolution Version)

From a small red flexi-disc of the kind which was released around the time of the Cultural Revolution. The disc also includes a song appealing to the people of Taiwan. The exact year of this recording is unknown, but it seems to have been released alongside songs like "Souvenirs d'Enfance" and "Alma Llanera" as an initiative to study foreign folk songs. According to the "The Mao Era in Objects" Project (https://maoeraobjects.ac.uk/object-biographies/flexi-disc/ ), after 1972 it became more common to see these flexi-discs with more experimental songs on them. This recording is sung in a style very reminiscent of the music of the Cultural Revolution as well, with songs like "The People of Yanbian Love Chairman Mao" also being performed by a female soloist accompanied by an orchestra. The singer herself, Zhu Fengbo, was mainly known during the Cultural Revolution for her work as the main soloist for the Shanghai School of Dance's "The White-Haired Girl: A Modern Revolutionary Ballet" (白毛女：革命现代舞剧), an opera about the communist victory over the Kuomintang. She remained popular into the 1980s, but in the 1990s she gradually faded into obscurity.
