In this video series, Leah Waldo will teach you how to navigate the music business over the course of four lessons. She draws from her personal experience as a country artist, performing under the name Elisa Smith with her band the Tiny Little Lies. In the first lesson, Leah goes over why musicians are well-equipped to be entrepreneurs, and what it means to be a band leader. She also helps you articulate your IVI (identity, vision, and intention), which you will use throughout the next three lessons. In lesson 2, Leah dives into building your brand as an artist and the tools and techniques that you can use, including email lists, social media, networking, and partnering with other brands. She also talks about gathering assets to create an electronic press kit, with the goal of securing gigs. In lesson 3, Leah talks about the business of planning an album, which involves creating a budget, finding a producer, choosing which songs to put on the record, and optimizing those songs for the studio. In the fourth and final lesson, Leah goes over crowdfunding and how to plan your own campaign from beginning to end.
