In this video, Berklee Online course author Prince Charles Alexander describes how an artist should approach a producer when beginning a recording relationship. As a producer and engineer himself, his approach to good production is to make music based on what we enjoy, as both listeners and creators. Prince Charles also discusses how the role of vocal producer originated, and how an artist can take steps to enjoy the experience of “being produced.” As a musician, being comfortable and open with your producer is important because your commitment to the producer becomes like that of a marriage: once you’re working together, you’re in a creative relationship!
