Finding a trigger point or muscle knot is not easy, especially in the neck. There are several different layers of muscles in the anterior neck, such as the Sternocleidomastoid and Scalene muscles. Here are some key tips that we go over in the video:

Treating the front of the neck can easily be done just by using your fingers. If you find a tender spot, does it recreate your neck pain? If it recreates your primary complaint, hold that spot for several seconds, anywhere from 30 seconds to a minute. Then move on to find another spot. The video goes into details on how to find these spots.

Don't over-treat your muscle knots. If you find a spot that is painful, don't try to focus all your time on that one spot. Its very likely that there are many knots in your neck that need your attention. Its better to treat multiple spots during one session than it is to treat one spot.

Your self neck pain trigger point therapy can be done several ways. You can apply pressure to one spot and hold. Or you can 'strip out' your muscle by sliding your finger across the entire muscle. To do this, its best to use some form of cream that will make the sliding easier.
