Squid Game Auditions Stories

The entire cast of Squid Game knocked their performances out of the park - from the lead actors to those we only got to know by number and see briefly on the screen. It wasn’t easy to find such a stellar cast, but luckily Hwang Dong-hyuk was able to assemble an incredibly talented ensemble of actors. One unique aspect of the Squid Game casting is that while there are a few big-name Korean actors, many cast members are fairly new to acting.
Anyone would have a hard time believing the Sae Byeok actress was new to the industry, but Squid Game is actually her first show - and it was her first self-tape! Her natural talent shone through and she got to meet the director and audition. While she may have had a tough time believing in herself, eventually, with the help of her supportive cast and strong director, she was able to trust her instincts and show off her amazing talent.
The actors who play Gi-hun and Sang-woo suit their characters so well which isn’t much of a surprise since the parts were actually written for them! Neither of them had to audition since Hwang Dong-hyuk knew they would be perfect for the parts. Actress Kim Joo Ryoung who plays Mi Nyeo got a straight offer as well. While it is a smaller part, the director felt it was a vital one so he asked the actress to take on the role before the show was even completely greenlit!
In one case - one of the actors who got a role only auditioned because another actor couldn’t film the show due to border restrictions. However they got there, the cast of Squid Game gave nothing bust their best when it came time to film!
