TOP TEN: The Best Songs Of Travis

This band was formed in Glasgow, Scotland in 1990 originally under the name "Glass Onion" with guitarrist Andy Dunlop as the only member from the founding formation. Drummer Neil Primrose joined the same year while singer Fran Healey joined in 1991. The band was completed by Dougie Payne (bass) in 1994. They then took on the name "Travis" taking from the character Travis Henderson from the movie Paris, Texas. Travis released their first studio album in 1997, called "Good Feeling'". The album reached the Top Ten of the UK album charts and peaked at #9 and was certified Gold. 5 singles of the album reached the Top 40 of the UK single charts.

Their breakthrough came in 1999 when they played their song "Why does it always rain on me" on the Glastonbury festival. During their perfomance it began to rain and that story was picked up by newspapers and tv stations and their album "The Man Who", which was released earlier that year began to rise back into the UK album charts and peaked at #1. It has been certified 9 times platinum in the UK. The single "Why does it always rain on me" peaked at #10 in the UK single charts and also charted across Europe and in Australia.

In 2001 they released their 3rd album "The Invisible Band" and scored another #1 in the UK album charts. The album also reached Top Ten across Europe including Germany, Belgium and Norway, as well as Australia and even reached the Top 40 in the US Billboard album charts. It has been certified platinum 4-times in the UK, and platinum in Norway and Australia. The song "Sing" became their best ranked single peaking at #3 in the UK, #4 in Norway and #8 in New Zealand.

After drummer Prinrose had a bad accident in 2002 (he almost died after jumping into a shallow pool but fully recovered) Travis regrouped and re-evaluated. In 2003 they released their next album "12 Memories" - the album peaked at #3 in the UK album charts and was certified platinum. The single "Re-Offender" became their 5th Top Ten hit in their homecountry. In 2007 they released "The Boy With No Name" - this album reached #4 in the UK, and in 2008 "Ode To J. Smith" - that one peaked at #20.

After a hiatus they came back in 2013 with their next album "Where You Stand" - another Top 3 album for the group, their 4th altogether. And in 2016 they released "Everything At Once" and reached #5 in the UK album charts.

With their newest album "10 songs" announced to be released in October of 2020 here now are my favorite 10 songs of this group so far, hope you enjoy! What are yours? Write in the comments if you like and give it a thumbs up if you think it deserves one.
