Dr Z MAZ18 Cranked Up - Stormtroopin
Dr Z MAZ 18 NR2 amp in "Marshall mode".. basically just cranked. Ted Nugent's Stormtroopin' used for the sample.
Used the Dr. Z CAZ-45 on the ride out solo.
Special thanks to my wonderful musical friends for making this video possible!
Monica Gotheridge - vocals
Jeff Kerwin - vocals
Dennis Frankowski - drums
me - guitar/bass/audio/video
Recording details:
Guitar to amp cranked, to the Z Air Brake attenuator, to a Celestion Greenback mic'd with a Shure SM7. Tried something different with the mic, the low cut engaged and the high frequency boost on, and right on the grill. The high frequency boost makes it a little more like a Shure 57, except instead of the 57 having a sharp 6db peak at 5k-6k, it's more like a +4db peak from 1k to 7k. Engaging the low frequency cut almost duplicates the low frequency cut in the 57, but slightly sharper. In the end, you kind of wind up with the sound of a 57 that's a little smoother and a little less low end. However, missing more low end means you don't have to hi-pass the guitar in post to stay out of the way of the bass and drums. I thought it was a cool experiment, and makes a decent tone for a mix that you don't have to mess with. NOTE - I engaged a high shelf cut on the guitar on the solo. It didn't need as much of that natural bite when not competing against the rest of the instruments.
