Gavottes 1 and 2 from Cello Suite No. 6 by J.S. Bach

The Gavottes from Cello Suite No.6 by J.S. Bach are usually performed together, with the first Gavotte being played da capo. This means that the player goes back to beginning (or "head" which is capo in Italian) and plays the first Gavotte a second time without repeats.

The 6th Cello Suite was written for an instrument called the "viola pomposa," which was sort of like a cross between a viola and a modern cello. It was pitched higher than a cello and had 5 strings. The music that Bach wrote for the 6th Cello Suite works very well on the guitar, that combined with the fact that the music itself is so good is why lots of guitarists play this suite.
