Pierre Poilievre holds news conference ahead of Conservative rally in Manitoba – June 2, 2023

Pierre Poilievre holds a press conference in Winnipeg. The Conservative leader is visiting Manitoba to rally supporters ahead of a byelection in Portage–Lisgar, where People’s Party of Canada Leader Maxime Bernier is running for the seat vacated by longtime Conservative MP and former interim leader Candice Bergen. The byelection is set to take place on June 19.

Responding to questions from reporters, Poilievre comments on the possible replacement of David Johnston amid opposition parties' ongoing calls for the special rapporteur on foreign interference to step down. He also discusses Uganda’s new anti-homosexuality law and Meta Platforms’ plan to temporarily block some news content for Canadian users of Facebook and Instagram in response to Bill C-18, the federal government’s Online News Act.
