Blind and Travelling the World
Blind woman Julie Woods doesn’t shy away from challenges. In fact, she thrives on them. Since losing her sight Julie has travelled to more than 50 countries with her husband Ron. They have visited the world's seven modern wonders, and Julie has authored a book about her travels called ‘Wanderlust’. (With illustrations from Ron). She decided after going blind that she would say yes to every opportunity that presented itself; and focus on what she can do, rather than what she can’t. Julie is all about using her other four senses to enrich her personal experiences and interactions with others, leaving people with a more enlightened and inclusive view of disability. Julie and her friend Jo recently completed a challenge to walk every street in Dunedin. Now they have extended this project to include every street in the wider region.
