Celebrating excellence in public service
For governments around the world there is no greater responsibility than serving their people; from providing effective health systems, quality education, decent jobs and to combating climate change. To recognize excellent achievements in this field, the United Nations designate 23 June as the UN Public Service Day. It celebrates the value and virtue of public service to the community and it highlights the contribution of public service in the development process and to achieve the SDGs. Every year, the UN also honors innovative public service initiatives to award and recognize excellence in public service at the global level.
In 2018, the winners of the UN Public Service Awards are from Austria, Colombia, Indonesia, Kenya, Republic of Korea, Spain, Switzerland and Thailand.
