You think your case is worth $25 million dollars.
Your friend thinks your case is worth $50 million dollars.
You read in the newspaper that someone with a similar injury got a verdict of $10 million dollars.
You think to yourself that since your injuries are worse than the people you've heard about that your injuries must be worth much more. You perceive that the value of your case is double or triple what you've heard others obtaining.
Now, as your case approaches trial, the defense decides to enter into settlement negotiations. They make an offer. Your attorney relays the offer to you. You are shocked. You are stunned. You can't believe they offered only a fraction of what YOU think your case is worth.
Then, you get angry.
"How dare they think that your case is worth only X dollars!"
You think your case is exponentially more valuable than X to the nth degree.
But your attorney asks you a simple question.
"How do you know what the true value of your injury is?"
Are you relying on these stories you've read about?
Are you relying on friends or family members to tell you what somebody else got?
If you are, you've got a problem.
