Side Control Escapes and Trash Talking with Chad
This is a video of some of the training going on in the gym. During the video I covered some Side Control Escape drills and then followed it up with situational rolling.
You'll notice during the Side Control escapes portion that I am focused on the underhook escape. This is by far one of my favorite escapes and the one that I use most often.
After the escape drills we get into situational rolling. We do a rolling drill where we stay on our side. Because if you can stay on your side, you have a much better chance of escaping than you do if you get flattened to your back. So the drill is to facilitate that ability to stay on the side when you're rolling or competing in Brazilian Jiu-jitsu.
Following this, we do pass/ defend/ sweep style rolling. Starting inside the full guard we either try to pass or the bottom person sweeps or submits.
Situational rolling like this has a big benefit to Brazilian Jiujitsu as it allows someone to focus solely on the area that they are training instead of allowing them to fall into the normal areas or techniques they always use.
And you may notice the playful shit talking with Chad and I. I think this is pretty normal for people who have a brotherly nature towards one another. We mess around with each other a lot.
Hope you enjoy the video!
