EARLIEST HORSE RIDING confirmed to 5,000 years ago. #shorts #prehistory
There’s been quite a lot of controversy about who were the earliest horse riders and where they came from.
But now a group of scientists have approached the question from an anatomical and osteological point of view, studying the bones from burials in Romania, Bulgaria and Hungary for signs of the kinds of wear and tear that horse riding can have on riders.
The pathologies they’ve found in these bones have enabled the team to confirm that the peoples of the Bronze Age Yamnaya culture from the Eurasian Steppe were indeed riding horses at least 5,000 years ago.
This opens the way for archaeologists and anthropologists to more confidently explore the implications of Yamnaya expansion into lands to their east and west, including of course North Western Europe.
We’ll be bringing you a more comprehensive report on all this in the next few days in a brand new Prehistory Guys show so watch out for this thumbnail appearing in your YouTube feed!
