Name's origins
There are several hypotheses relating to the origin of the name. The most accredited one derives the toponym from two Latin terms *Talus* and *Cotium*, or "cut in the rock". The village, in fact, developed on the slopes of Mount Civita, the top separated by a cleft from Mount La Difesa

𝗧𝗵𝗲 𝗼𝗿𝗶𝗴𝗶𝗻𝘀
The territory was inhabited in ancient times by the Equi, placed on the northern border of the Marsi. There are certain historical hints of an inhabited area whose origins date back to the 11th century.

Before then, in some Carolingian imperial texts of 964 and 998, references to the monastery of San Cosma were found, with the note "in Heloritu" (ie located in a laurel wood). Even before that, there are traces of cave settlements, some dating back to the Neolithic and Bronze Age.

Middle Ages
