🇧🇷 Santa Marta Favela - Very DANGEROUS! Yet Beautiful Slums in Brazil

I spent the better half of today walking through the Favela Santa Marta in Dona Marta, Brazil. Made famous by Michael Jackson, when he filmed "they don't care about us" in 1996. A bronze statue of Michael Jackson was erected at the exact location that was featured in his video along with mosaic wall art by artist Romero Britto.

Favela Santa Marta is a favela located in the Botafogo and Laranjeiras part of the Morro Dona Marta, that is also divided with the neighborhoods of Flamengo, Cosme Velho and Silvestre, in the South Zone of Rio de Janeiro.

My advice, is to only enter this favela with a qualified and experienced local guide that has many online references. Like any other Favela in Brazil you will always have the danger of theft, violence, gangs and guns.

I enjoyed my time today, met a lot of new people, saw new things and was introduced to the Favela Santa Marta lifestyle. I hope to return one day soon.
