Helen Ware (1887-1974) was a internationally known concert violinist, born in Woodbury New Jersey, began her study in violin with Frederick Hahn in Philadelphia, then continued to study in Vienna and Budapest. Her interest in Hungarian music during the time she resided there led some to speak of her as a Hungarian violinist. Upon returning to the United States, she spent many years on the concert stage, performing as a soloist and recital artist. She also performed many of her own compositions. A review of a performance in Redding, Pennsylvania in 1922 stated: "Miss Ware has technique, tone interpretation, musical sensibility and individual charm. She is noted as an interpreter of Hungarian music and Slav music. Miss Ware is a diminutive person whose charming personality is said to win her audience even before her talent has a chance to assert itself."

Helen Ware owned and played a Stradivarius violin made in 1684, known as the "Soames" although it is not clear that she played it in this recording.

Anton Grigorevich Rubinstein(1829 -- 1894) was a Russian pianist, composer and conductor. As a pianist he was regarded as a rival to Franz Liszt, and he ranks amongst the greatest keyboard virtuosi. "Melody in F" is probably his best known composition.
