Helicoprion
This strange creature terrorized the ocean nearly 300 million years ago. The Helicoprion took the title for having the most bizarre set of teeth of any species on the entire planet. These fish had teeth that had an uncanny resemblance to modern-day buzzsaws, earning them the nickname ‘buzzsaw killers’. Marine researchers spent years trying to understand the helicoprion and its weird anatomy. This fish's fossils were first found in 1899. It was difficult to pinpoint the exact location of these teeth on helicoprions, but scientists figured it out more than a century later.
For many years, it was believed that these teeth grew on the animal's tail or dorsal fin, but Idaho University solved the mystery and discovered that the teeth actually come from the animal's jaw. While it's unlikely that the teeth spun around like a chainsaw, you can bet that they were incredibly deadly.
Viperfish
There's a good reason why viperfish are always at the top of the list when we talk about the deep sea's most fearsome predators. Even though they are pretty small and only reach a maximum size of 30 centimeters, that still doesn’t take away from their ability to absolutely ripping their victims to shreds.
They can impale unsuspecting prey with their large, razor-sharp teeth and are known to be amazing swimmers. So we are pretty sure that if you were an innocent deep-sea dweller, assuming there are any, you wouldn’t want to take any chances with this tiny ball of fury.
