How To Keep Native Plants Safe From Invasive Garlic Mustard

In this video we first talk about the Sessile Trillium and it's edibility, taste, and harvesting. We talk a little bit about how field guides can be misleading and how it's best to take what you read with a grain of salt. While talking about the Trillium we spot some Garlic Mustard. Which is an invasive weed that is known for killing off most of the plants around it.

Some native plants like Trilliums are very susceptible to this plant so we want to remove it from the ecosystem. Thankfully it's edible, extremely nutritious, and very delicious as well. To remove it you just need to pull up the plant by the root and take the entire root. Anywhere you find one plant you will find more so be sure to pull up any seedlings you can while in the area as well. After you have pulled them up go ahead and take them home and eat them, you might as well. The leaves are the best part of the plant and make excellent greens, dressings, condiments, and more!

Lastly we talk about how foraging is actually good for the environment and the ecosystem. Why foraging is important for the benefit of plants and conservation of our natural world. Just removing noxious invasive weeds, is one way to protect native plant life in your area and most of those you will remove are edible or medicinal.
