How To Identify Wild Comfrey - Cynoglossum virginianum

In this video we take a look at the popular Wild Comfrey and its identification features. Wild Comfrey or Cynoglossum virginianum by tis Latin name is a really easy plant to identify. The plant will have a hairy appearance and texture on all parts except the flowers. The Basal leaves are large and egg shaped with smooth margins but these leaves change size and shape as we go up the plant. The rest of the leaves are alternate and will either be clasping the main stem or perfoliate meaning the stem goes through the leaves. The flowers are five petaled and a light indigo blue in color and will have prominent ridges in the center that are a light yellow white color. This plant is used medicinally topically for things like bruises, cuts and to help the pain of broken bones. It has been used internally for things but that can be dangerous to do so we don't cover those uses in this video.
