Using Couture Techniques to Sew an Edwardian Inspired Dress | Making a 1901 Evening Gown Pt 1
This project allowed me to practice using all of the couture techniques I learned in school! We've finally reached the actual making of the dress for my Foundation's Revealed contest entry, in which I will be sewing an Edwardian (late victorian?) inspired gown.. I go into quite a few ways you can add a more couture finish to your garment making so I hope this is helpful to you! This is part 1 of the dress making and covers the construction, where as part two will cover the embellishments.
In this video I cover how to add flipper bones to a gown and what they're used for, how to make lingerie straps, how to add boning to a dress in a way that won't be visible from the outside, fitting a mockup and a final dress fitting, how to flat line a dress using a popcorn tin, hand overcast seam finish, and couture finished closures using metal hooks and hand-worked thread loops covered by a ribbon for that super clean look! I also include some tips for how to fit a muslin mock up on yourself so you can make your life easier and get a more precise fit.
