Bland County, Virginia - Big Walker Mountain Tunnel on a Foggy Evening
The Big Walker Mountain Tunnel is located in Bland County, Virginia, and originally opened in 1972. The price tag was approximately $50 million when it was completed. At a length of 4,449-feet, it took roughly 5 years to complete the project. It ended up saving 40 minutes of travel time from Bland to Wythe County so it was well worth the expense as that stretch of I-77 is extremely heavily traveled.
