Mingus Mill: An Old Grist Mill Just Outside Cherokee, North Carolina

Built in 1886, the Mingus Mill is a historic grist mill that uses a water-powered turbine instead of a water wheel to power all of the machinery in the building. I am told you can occasionally see fish inside the flume. It is still operational and they do demonstrations there once we are out of the Covid pandemic and in better weather. I discovered after my visit that there's a slave cemetery very nearby that I missed out on. I hope to go back someday to check that out and pay respect to those buried there by leaving a coin upside down. A very important piece of our history.
