You can precondition your Tesla on a schedule using the Tesla app, vehicle touchscreen, or Scheduled Departure feature to ensure the battery and cabin reach optimal temperatures before you drive.

What is Preconditioning?

Preconditioning warms or cools your Tesla’s battery and cabin to optimal temperatures before driving. In cold weather, it improves battery efficiency and charging speed, while in hot weather, it prevents battery overheating and keeps the cabin comfortable

Smart preconditioning can also learn your routine or use calendar events to automatically adjust without manual input

Preconditioning generally enhances range, regenerative braking, and overall battery longevity

Methods to Schedule Preconditioning

1. Using the Tesla App
Open the Tesla app on your smartphone or tablet.
Tap Climate and adjust the cabin temperature to your desired level.
Tap Turn On or Precondition to start the process.

To schedule, use Scheduled Departure, set a departure time, and enable the Precondition slider. The car will automatically begin preconditioning so the cabin and battery are ready by your set time

2. Using the Vehicle Touchscreen
Go to Controls → Climate → Schedule.
Select Precondition.

Choose the time, day, and frequency (e.g., daily commute or weekly repetitions) for the Tesla to start conditioning

You can also assign a location (Home, Work, or Current Location) to ensure preconditioning activates only when parked there

3. Smart Preconditioning
Tesla’s Smart Preconditioning learns your driving patterns or reads your calendar to automatically precondition the car before you typically depart

To enable: Open the Tesla app → Schedule → toggle Smart Preconditioning. Optionally, set a departure time as backup.

Smart Preconditioning works year-round for heating or cooling, ensuring the battery is efficient and the cabin comfortable without manual scheduling.
