Step-by-Step: Where Ravens Roost, 20x40 Oil/Canvas

I took pictures of the progress of this big painting over a couple of weeks. I don't offer any narration with this animation/slideshow; I leave it up to you to analyze each frame carefully to see what I did. You'll learn more that way! :)

Painting was started with Gamblin transparent earth yellow and transparent earth orange. Sketch was laid in with Portland Grey Medium. From there, I used many different colors, focusing on the higher chroma modern (organic) paints. Since the painting was made over many sessions, I used Gamblin Artists Colors Solvent-Free Liquid as my medium to keep the paint flowing. Rosemary Brushes, especially the sable ones, were a big hit with me at the end.
