He argued that the popular support for figures such as Donald Trump, Marine le Pen and others are not the cause of this but rather a symptom. He argued that ignorance of the effort it took to build Western liberal democracy and complacency about its durability could lead to its demise.

About the Speaker:

Mr Luce is currently based in Washington DC as the Financial Times’ Washington columnist and commentator. He is the author of a number of acclaimed books. He also served as the South Asia bureau chief for the Financial Times. He previously worked as a speech writer to Treasury Secretary, Lawrence Summers in the Clinton administration. He is a graduate from Oxford University in Politics, Philosophy and Economics.
