James Stewart- International Criminal Prosecution and Global Human Rights Law - 04 April 2014

About the Speech: The International Criminal Court (ICC) was established in 2002 to investigate and prosecute individuals accused of genocide, crimes against humanity and war crimes. In his keynote address, James Stewart highlighted the challenges facing the Court in fulfilling this mandate and bringing perpetrators of the most serious crimes to justice. Drawing on his vast personal experience as part of the ad hoc tribunals for the former Yugoslavia and Rwanda, Mr. Stewart explored how an evolving international criminal legal system is contributing to the pursuit of peace, justice and human rights. About the Speaker: Prior to his election as Deputy Prosecutor in November 2012, Mr. Stewart worked as General Counsel in the Crown Law Office within the Ministry of the Attorney General, in Toronto.
