Short Answer? Because platinum is the more expensive metal to work with.

3) Is the price of the new Ed White Speedmaster 321 justified? - 11:53
A premium certainly makes sense given the fact that it's a special version of the Speedmaster, but there certainly aren't enough special things about it to justify a nearly $10k premium over the secondhand market price of the Speedy Pro.

No, of course not. A bracelet can always be sourced afterwards, and if you don't intend to wear it on the bracelet, then there's absolutely no reason to shell out the extra grand or more for one.
