Today, Christian and Anna dive into some of your biggest watch related questions!
1: Do Rolex Blueberry owners know that they're fake/hype, but are simply too invested?
Until 2002, the only two Rolex GMT 1675 bezel options we assumed existed were the all black and the Pepsi, but when the so-called "Blueberry" GMT started to appear. For years, there has been debate about whether or not the watches are actually real. Rumor has it that they were produced in small numbers for a Middle Eastern government, but now the pressure is on to prove once and for all whether or not they're legit. The issue is, Rolex themselves have released documentation on both sides of the issue, so they're the opposite of any help on the matter. At the end of the day, it becomes irrelevant whether or not the Blueberry is real, as long as the dealer who sold it to you has your back should the shiznitt ever hit the fan.
2: Should I stay away from microbrands in case they're not around to provide replacement parts in the future?
The important thing to remember here is that most microbrands (and even watch brands period) use movements that aren't made by them, and are generic enough that replacement parts are unlikely to dry up anytime soon. Since this is the most likely thing to go wrong with your watch on the whole, it isn't a thing to be too worried about.
3: What is your favorite watch currently in the T&H Shop?
Anna - the Rolex Explorer 5504
Christian - The 1940s Jaeger LeCoultre military watch and the Baume et Mercier "Polo"
4: 3 Watch Collection?
Anna - A Yellow Gold Rolex Day-Date w/ Onyx dial, an AP Royal Oak in white gold with the "honey" dial, and a Cartier Crash.
Christian - A blue Rolex Datejust, a Cartier Tank, and a Lange 1815 Chronograph.
5: Why buy a watch strap for $169 when I can buy one for $90?
The reason here really comes in 2 parts. Part 1: the heightened level of craftsmanship used by a company like Jean Rousseau, mixed with the impressive quality of the materials, provides a beautifully made product that, Part 2: will simply last far longer than anyone else's dollar for dollar.
6: Where is a good place to check out the Grand Seiko lineup?
The brand has two boutiques of note: one on Rodeo Drive in Los Angeles and one in Midtown Manhattan. Their range can also be viewed at authorized dealers such as our retail partner London Jewelers.
