Today, Christian dives into the collection of a T&H viewer and watch geek named Demian!

Demian was not born into watches the way a lot of collectors can be. A first generation American, Demian found his way to horology slowly, starting in one hell of a good spot to do this sorta thing - Switzerland. Demian was surrounded by horology everywhere he went, and eventually, there was nothing else he could do to escape it.

His first watch was an Armand Nicolet L08, bought for just $2500. While not a brand that gets talked about a lot, the watch was freakin' cool, and represented a ton of what would eventually lead Demian to his next watch, the Rolex Batman. This watch, in addition to being a total powerhouse of a timepiece and one that was the product of great sacrifice, also marked the birth of Demian's first child, something totally unbeatable.

From there, he moved on to a Tudor Black Bay Burgundy which, in many ways, represented a kind of surrogacy for another watch, and one he would come to acquire afterwards - the white dial ceramic Daytona. After a Tudor Black Bay Bronze Bucherer edition, we come to a very different watch - the Rolex 1016 Explorer. It's a watch that his watchmaker offered up to him at a killer price, and it tends to go pretty unnoticed in most circles, but for those in the know, they know.

A Rolex Pepsi GMT in steel on the jubilee is next up on the list, a watch that's a bit redundant all things considered, but one that certainly works in a more dressy situation than his Batman would. Speaking of dressy, next we have the Audemars Piguet Royal Oak in a 36mm yellow gold case with a matching champagne dial. Finally, to round things out in a big way, we have the 2019 Patek Philippe Aquanaut 5168G in white gold with the blue dial. It's substantial, at 42mm, but its purchase coincided with Demian's 10 year anniversary with his wife, and what a hell of a way to celebrate that.

So where should he go next? Well, he's on the waiting list for quite a few incredible heavy hitters, each of which would be perfectly at home in his current collection. But here's the catch - he wants a five watch collection, something a bit more restrained and, as he put it, "badass." Step one: Pick just one of the three modern Rolexes in the collection. Step two: The beater - ideally, the Black Bay Bronze for everything it represents in terms of the relationship with Bucherer. Step three: the Dress Watch - for this, going independent is a no brainer, and while there are a number of options, there's something to be said for going small and meaningful. Step four: The vintage piece - Here, the 1016 should remain. It's simply too good to not. Finally, we have step five: the haute horlogerie sport watch. Here' the Royal Oak with champagne dial that you're currently on the waitlist for seems like the perfect option, but frankly, it couldn't hurt to go for something really gold like the Patek Aquanaut in rose.
