The Do It All Rolex: Day-Date 118206 - The Only Luxury Watch You Need?

As I continue the hunt for my next grail timepiece, today I revisit one of my favorite Rolex watches. After reviewing my own yellow gold Day-Date (ref. 18238), I borrowed a later platinum version (ref. 118206) which has unexpectedly changed my entire perception of this iconic luxury watch. In order to comprehend why, I revisit the history and story of its innovation while exploring some of my favorite locations in New York City.

Have I made a mistake by purchasing the yellow gold version? Why do I find the platinum version more compelling? Why has the Day-Date been so beloved by presidents, movie stars, captains of industry, musicians, and some of the world’s greatest heroes and most infamous villains?
