Okay lets go over an IRS update that happened over the weekend that I believe will answer a lot of questions for some of you. Let’s take a look at the question being posed.

“I do not file a tax return because I don’t meet the income requirement to file, did not use the Non-Filers tool on IRS.gov and get Social Security retirement, survivor or disability benefits (SSDI), Railroad Retirement benefits, Supplemental Security Income (SSI) and VA compensation and pension (C&P) benefits. Can I use Get My Payment to check my payment status or change how I receive my payment?

If this happens to be you here’s the Answer from the IRS: While you can check your payment status when it is scheduled for delivery, you will not be able to use Get My Payment to provide your bank account information because you did not file tax returns for 2018 or 2019. The IRS will use the information from SSA, the VA or RRB to generate your payment. You will receive your payment as a direct deposit or by mail, just as you would normally receive your benefits.

For example, if your benefits are currently deposited to a Direct Express card, your EIP (Economic impact payment) will also be deposited to that card. If your benefits are currently deposited to your bank account, your EIP will also be deposit to that account.

Note Direct Express Account Holders: If you use the Non-Filers tool to add your spouse or qualifying children, you cannot receive your payment on your Direct Express card. You may only select a bank account for direct deposit or leave bank information blank and receive the Payment by mail.

Let’s talk about the different stages of Get My Payment and some of the messages when you try logging in that might be causing you some trouble. If any of these apply to you hit that like button and tell us in the comments which one you’re seeing.

There seem to be 3 main messages you might encounter when you log into Get My Payment.

The first main message you may see in your display is Payment Status
One of two statuses may be available in this stage. The first being a payment has been processed, a payment date is available, and payment is to be sent either by direct deposit or mail.

Secondly, You’re eligible, but a payment has not been processed and a payment date is not available.

The second message you may see is Payment Status Not Available – We cannot determine your eligibility for a payment at this time. For example, you didn’t file either a 2018 or 2019 tax return, or you recently filed and the return has not been fully processed.

The third message is  Need More Information – You are eligible for a payment, but we do not have your direct deposit information. You will be given the opportunity to provide your bank information once you have properly verified your identity. Direct Deposit is the fastest way to get your EIP.

We’re going to go into detail about payment status not available, need more information, no payment date available, and when get my payment will provide a payment date after you add your banking information.

Why am I getting “Payment Status Not Available”

The Get My Payment application can return "Payment Status Not Available" for several reasons, I’ll be covering the most updated reasons the IRS has released as of this week.

If You’re required to file a tax return here are some reasons:

If you filed a tax return for 2019 and are still seeing this message its probably because the IRS is not finished processing your 2019 return. Since they haven’t processed your info The Get My Payment Tool application doesn't yet have any of your data.

Now If you don't usually file a return, and: You used the Non-Filers: Enter Payment Info Here form already, it probably means that your entry hasn’t been processed yet.

If you’re SSI or VA you’ll most likely get this message because your information hasn’t been uploaded into the tool yet since you don’t normally file a tax return. The IRS has said SSI and VA recipients can expect to see payments sent in late may.
