The Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP)
The Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP), formerly known as food stamps, is a federal program that helps families and individuals afford groceries. The SNAP Outreach Program works with community organizations to reach households who qualify for SNAP benefits, but are faced with barriers that keep them from participating in the application process.
The SNAP Outreach Team will answer general questions about SNAP benefits and provide materials to help the applicant prepare for an interview with a caseworker. By helping enroll qualifying participants in the program, the food bank can free up resources for those in need that do not qualify to receive SNAP benefits.
