BASIC INFORMATION ABOUT BRAZIL!

Today I'm gonna help you with basic information about Brazil. Officially Brazil was discovered by Portuguese people on April 22nd of 1500, the main responsible for the navigation was the Portuguese Pedro Álvares Cabral. The first name of Brazil was Ilha de Vera Cruz (1500) and later several names such as New Land/ Parrot Island (1501), Land of Santa Cruz (1503), Land of Brazil (1505) and finally Brazil (1527).

Currently, the capital of Brazil is Brasília since 1961 but other cities got this title before like Salvador (1549-1763), Rio de Janeiro (1763-1960) and Curitiba (March 24-27, 1969). Brasil is divided into 26 states + the federal district and 5 regions: North, Northeast, Central West, Southeast and South.

Brazil is the largest country from South America, 5° biggest in the world and 6° most populous. Our currency is REAL (R$) and there are two official languages: Portuguese and LIBRAS (Brazilian Sign Language)
