That disrespect didn’t stop in the NBA even after Curry had just averaged 23 and 7 shooting 45% from 3 even after his ankles were good. Nike had a chance to sign Curry after the 2012-2013 season, after the Warriors had made the second round in the playoffs, after Curry was beginning to play like an All-Star. He was already a Nike athlete, but in their pitch meeting, they started by pronouncing Stephen’s name as Steph-on. In one of their slides, they had left Kevin Durant’s name in there. They fumbled the bag. He became the most popular athlete in the world, his jersey was the most sold for 3 consecutive years.

In 2016, Steph was worth 14 billion dollars to Under Armour. In the 2013-2014 season, Curry became a first time All-Star. Nike even had a chance to match Under Armour’s offer, but they didn’t. He immediately proved Nike wrong and that’s what he wanted to do, because at that point, he had been used to being overlooked and so Under Armour actually valued him and now Curry has his own brand.
