We know Tacko Fall in the NBA as that tall fan favorite, to put that into perspective, with shoes that would make him the 4th tallest player in NBA history and the tallest right now. He has an 8’ 2” wingspan and yes he can do this...dunk without jumping, but he’s one of the most shy players in the NBA. He legit got the 6th most fan votes amongst Eastern conference frontcourt players. He even got 7 player votes to be an All-Star despite playing only 7 games. But he actually struggles with so many people wanting to see him, people approaching him, because he’s always liked to be the guy in the background. There’s a sort of innocence to Tacko.

Tacko Fall was a pretty popular high school player. He was decently ranked but he was filling out high school gyms because of his height because he was 7’ 6” in his senior high school, yeah I don’t know he’s listed as 7’ 5” now in the NBA, still tall. There was also this hilarious matchup between 420 pound Nyquel Alexander and Tacko Fall which blew him up even more. Nyquel went into football, good for him. And then we forgot Tacko when he got to college. No seriously, he went to college and we just didn’t really talk about him. He played for 4 years at UCF, he put up decent stats shooting 75% from the field doing stuff like this. He’s the all time leader in blocks. It was his senior year where there was a chance he would get drafted and when he was in march madness. We had the big Zion vs Tacko matchup which did not cease to disappoint. But his origins to get to even this point were dire. See, Tacko came from Dakar, Senegal where his family was so poor, they went days without meals, disease was rampant. Tacko saw people die around him and through it all, he found basketball. Tacko came to the US in his freshman year of high school to escape it all and improve his basketball skills. He didn’t see his mother for seven year until his senior year of college. Even now, he still talks about it with a smile on his face.

And Tacko was immediately a spectacle in the NBA. Starting in the summer league, everytime Tacko came onto the court, it was just electric. And he did more of the really tall player thing, like jeez. But even as Tacko’s fame rose, Tacko was the kindest player that a lot of these players had met. He was on a 2 way contract and played in the G-League, where every teammate wanted to be around him. They would talk about music, Tacko knows every word to every song, and anime like One Piece. The power of Nakama (wow), also what’s your favorite anime, just curious. He even did tiktoks. And in the G-League he was just solid, averaging 13 points and 11 rebounds. For comparison, Alex Caruso averaged 14 points and 6 assists before being called up.

Tacko’s first official NBA game was also unique, the crowd chanted so loudly for Tacko to be put in the game and boo’d Brad Stevens when he didn’t, which led to this. The thing is with Tacko, he hasn’t shown to be viable enough for long stretches. He’s sorta outta date in today’s NBA since he’s not a unicorn. Yet there’s promise for Tacko. He’s not a stick at 311 pounds, making him the heaviest in the NBA. On top of that, he’s not really getting injured like really tall big men usually do. Look at Porzingis who has dealt with a number of injuries in the past 2 years. Yao Ming’s knees gave out on him. Tacko’s been relatively stable in the G-League and through all the workouts. What he needs to work on is conditioning.

Obviously the first thing people notice is his height, but then they are just blown away by the type of person Tacko is. Even Brad Stevens feels the same. It’s why so many of the Celtics players will also push for Tacko to play, because they want him to succeed. There’s just something pure about his personality that resonates with everyone. But even without that, all the players acknowledge the level of work that Tacko puts into the game. And for a big man of size like Tacko, he surprisingly has a soft touch and in practice, he’s hitting threes. (wow) He’s in the gym with Jaylen and Tatum a lot. That’s why Jaylen was saying to put respect on his name.
