John McCormack Gems (24) : Per viver vicino a Maria (To live near Maria)

This aria is from Donizetti's opera Figlia Del Reggimento (Daughter of the Regiment) and it was recorded by John McCormack on 23rd March 1910.
I haven't been able to find a translation to English but in the opera the peasant Tonio longs to live near Maria, the w best oman he loves, and to help achieve this he enlists in the 21st Regiment and eventually wins the heart of its "daughter", Maria.
To my mind, in this recording, John McCormack perfectly demonstrates the "bel canto" style of singing.
Unfortunately it is a noisy old recording but I have tried to get a "true to life" sound and, just for a "live" effect and to add presence, I have added applause.
