The word "Machree" comes from the Irish "Mo chridhe" and means"my heart".
"Songs my mother taught me" is one of Dvorak's cycle "Gypsy Songs" set to poems by the Czech poet Adolf Heyduk and the literal translation of the poem is apparently
"When my old mother taught me songs to sing,
Tears would well strangely in her eyes.
Now my brown cheeks are wet with tears,
When I teach the children how to sing and play!"
I have tried to get the best possible sound from the recordings and just to give a live effect, I have added applause to the first two tracks, The last is from a live broadcast.
