John McCormack Gems (19) : How Fair This Spot (Galina-Rachmaninoff)

How Fair This Spot was recorded by John McCormack on 19th September 1924. McCormack and Rachmaninoff were very good friends and the other day I came across what I think is an extract from the autobiography of the American actor John Barrymore.
"It was during "The Swan" that Lily McCormack invited Ouida and me to drop in after the play. The only other guest was our mutual good friend Philip Merivale. There were also present, Fritz Kreisler, Rachmaninoff, and of course, John McCormack! The occasion was a rehearsal, which continued far into the early hours of the next morning, for recordings of some of Rachmaninoff's songs (with himself at the piano) sung by John McCormack with violin obligato by Fritz Kreisler. The very thought of it now staggers the imagination-- that such an experience could have happened to us is almost unbelievable"
I have to tried to get the best possible sound from the recording but it is unfortunately,still poor. Just to give a "live" effect with a little more presence, I have added applause.
