painting my chosen family (PART 1)
“Family Tree” Part 1: SIMONE
Oil on wood panel, 6” diameter
This summer, I’m working on a project called “Family Tree,” centered around the people who constitute my chosen family. I traveled around the country, spent time with the people I love, took their photographs, and now I’m painting their portraits.
Through this project, I hope to explore the importance of family constructed by acts of free will rather than accidents of blood, to investigate how relationships with others can constitute the self, and to pay homage to the people whom I entrust with my heart.
I will be posting a long n juicy YouTube video upon completion of the project 🫡
