Our baby is sleeping – Dodecanese Greek Collection
Description: A group of women from the village of Koskinou (Rhodes) remembers a traditional local lullaby. In the lyrics, the cities of Constantinople and Venice are mentioned. The mother, grandmother or another member of the family promises to buy valuable textiles, clothes and jewelry from these cities when the baby becomes an adult. Traditional Greek poetry also refers to these big and rich cities. Both of them were big trade centers with many artisan workshops and later factories. The cities were famous for their textile and cloth production and for their jewellery making.
