Alan Turing

Alan Turing (1912–1954) was a British mathematician, logician, and computer scientist, widely regarded as the father of modern computing and artificial intelligence.

During World War II, he worked at Bletchley Park, where he led a team that helped crack the German Enigma code, a breakthrough that significantly shortened the war and saved millions of lives.

After the war, Turing designed one of the first models for a programmable computer and proposed the concept of the “Turing Test”, a way to determine if a machine can think like a human.

Despite his contributions, Turing was persecuted for being homosexual, which was illegal in Britain at the time. He was convicted in 1952 and subjected to chemical castration. Tragically, he died in 1954, likely by suicide.

Today, Alan Turing is celebrated as a pioneer of computer science and AI, and as a symbol of courage and injustice.
