The Israel–Palestine conflict is a long-standing struggle over land and sovereignty in the region of Palestine.
It began in the early 20th century, when Jews established the State of Israel (1948) on land also claimed by Arab Palestinians.
Since then, there have been multiple wars, occupations, and failed peace efforts.
Today, Israel controls most of the territory; the West Bank is partly governed by the Palestinian Authority, and the Gaza Strip is ruled by Hamas, which remains in constant conflict with Israel.
