After fighting some Ju88s during a recent Spitfire mission, I had to try them out in the daylight bomber intercept role.

I somehow managed to take down 3 bombers, but inevitably, the escort fighters knocked me out. I was able to make a crash landing in friendly territory.

Though fast and maneuverable for its medium bomber class, the Ju88 should have been kept as a Nightfighter only, yet was often thrown at escorted allied bombers. This misuse of resources deprived the Luftwaffe of needed aircraft and crews to protect German cities at night, and did little to stem the tide of allied bombers and escorts during the day. An interesting case study, and it makes for an intensely dramatic video!
