Stop one on the Transfăgărășan Highway was to visit the ruins of Poenari Castle, the former home of Vlad the Impaler or as some people refer to him the real Count Dracula. Poenari Fortress is a very famous castle in Romania and although not the easiest place to visit it's definitely worth a few hours of your time if you're in the area. If you're not then come and take a self guided walking tour around the real Dracula's Castle with me as I scale the 1,480 steps to the top. The castle ruins are perched on the top of a mountain peak and great for exploring, flying the drone and enjoying views down into the valley below.
